Throughout Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch represents morality and reason despite the actions in the novel. He was named after the prominent Persian Titus Pomponius Atticus, who is known for remaining neutral in political struggles and Frances Cunningham Finch Lee, Harper Lee’s mother. Atticus Finch is a loving father to Jem and Scout. His wife died young as a result of a heart attack. They live in Maycomb, Georgia during the time of the Great Depression. However, as one of the prominent citizens in Maycomb where he serves as a lawyer and a moral one at that, he is considerably well off.

Static Character

Atticus is even-handed throughout the story. He is the only character that remains static. Instead, others learn from him. He portrays intelligence, calm wisdom, and commendable behavior. He is respected by everyone; even the poor. He is the person others turn to in times of doubt and trouble.
