I'll admit that I was very skeptical when I opened my birthday gift and found that I had received a Soda Stream. I was sure that it would soon join the ranks of other dust-covered, birthday gift appliances, you know, the ones that get used faithfully for a few weeks, but end up relegated to the back of the cabinet.
Sure, I had watched the SodaStream commercials on television, but had written the product off as being another gimmick, just another "amazing" gadget destined for info-mercials and home shopping channels.
The SodaStream, or so it said on the box, was supposed to turn ordinary water into flavorful carbonated beverages. The instructions told me that I would save money by making my own sodas, and it promised to do so, easily, in around ten seconds. I was informed that I would be helping the environment as well, by using less plastic bottles.
